Dr. Mindi Golden (B.A., Humboldt State University; M.A., San Jose State University; Ph.D, University of Utah) is an Assistant Professor in the Communication Studies Department at SF State. She teaches courses in Interpersonal Communication, Family Communication, Communication & Aging, Communication Theory, and Nonverbal Communication.

Dr. Golden’s research focuses on identity and social support. She is especially interested in issues affecting caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s and other dementia-causing diseases. Dr. Golden has examined support between fluent and non-fluent speakers, the perceived benefits and limitations of caregiver support group conversations, strategies for communicating with persons with dementia in the context of placement, and communication in the context of a loved one dying in a hospital setting.

In addition to teaching and research, Dr. Golden is an avid reader. She also travels with her grandfather and enjoys walking at the beach.
