Janelle Metz is a career counselor at the Career Center and the liaison to the colleges of Humanities and Behavioral and Social Sciences. She assists students, especially students in these colleges, with career development. Topics include major and career-oriented questions, resume and interview preparation, and job search skills. The Student Voice is a database containing thousands of student survey responses, organized by educational issues and SFSU strategic planning themes. The opinions have been collected since 1998 from ALL official university-wide surveys, including Exit Surveys, CSU Surveys, and "Student Pulse" Surveys.

The deadline to apply for participation in the 16th Annual Student Research Competition is Tuesday, Feb. 26.All currently enrolled students and spring, summer and fall 2001 graduates are eligible. The SFSU competition features oral presentations( March 4-8) and campus winners are provided travel funds to compete in the CSU-wide competition May 3-4 at CSU Long Beach.

The recruiting period for students to participate in Community Involvement Center (CIC) projects runs through Feb. 15. The Center's academic internship opportunities are open to all majors.

SFSU has a new scholarship office that is working with academic advisers, graduate coordinators, faculty members and student organizations to identify outstanding students and help prepare them for prestigious, national competitions. Two upcoming workshops that will outline the various steps in applying for scholarships will take place during spring semester 2002. The first is at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, and the second at 2 p.m. Monday, April 8. Meetings will be held in Student Services 401. Students planning to attend should RSVP to honor@sfsu.edu.

The Office of Academic Honors and Scholarships helps students with
their scholarship search, provides feedback on application drafts, and
advises students applying for nationally competitive scholarships and
fellowships. Whether you are just starting your search or have a
particular award in mind, stop in. The office has information on
hundreds of local, national, and international scholarships. The many
funding opportunities on file are both merit- and need-based and
encompass a broad range of undergraduate, graduate, study-abroad, and
internship opportunities.
