The Department of Instructional Technologies
offers graduate study leading to the Master of Arts in Education.
The program is directed toward the education of professionals
in the design and production of instructional programs and materials.
The overall goal of the program is to enable students to learn
how to plan, develop, and manage effective instructional programs.
Using instructional systems principles, students learn the fundamentals
of computer-based and media-based instruction, instructional video,
and the evaluation of training and educational programs.
The Program emphasizes the instructional systems approach, practical
design experience, and project-based courses. During their studies,
students develop a portfolio which might include instructional
computing software, instructional print materials, video and multimedia
(interactive video) programs.
The goal of the Department of Instructional Technologies is to
imbue students with a comprehensive understanding of learning
theories, as well as their pedagogical frameworks, so that they
may effectively use multimedia applications to improve teaching,
learning and performance. ITEC students come from diverse backgrounds,
but all share a keen interest in designing instruction that will
improve knowledge. Students will often work collaboratively on
problem-based projects, thus mutual respect and teamwork are cornerstones
of our program.
