SUMMER 2007 STATE-SUPPORTED FACULTY PROCESSING

The following is the documentation and instructions for Summer 2007 State-Supported Faculty Processing:

State-Supported Summer faculty appointment processing for 2007 may now begin using E-TRAC. Please refer to the attached supplemental E-TRAC instructions. Human Resources will forward payroll source documents for processing and send/email appointment notification letters to faculty once this office receives the completed and approved E-TRAC transactions and necessary payroll forms.

IMPORTANT:

As a result of the new Unit 3 Faculty Bargaining Agreement ratified this month and effective 7/1/2006, please note the following provisions for Summer 2007:

  • Tenured and Probationary faculty employed at the campus in fall 2006 and/or spring 2007 and who teach summer 2007 session(s) and do not have a summer appointment that includes payment for indirect instructional duties will receive $150 per WTU for indirect instruction in the form of an additional, one-time lump-sum payment, issued at the end of the session(s) taught. This office will provide Payroll with the documentation to generate payments.
  • WTU’s taught by lecturers will count towards WTU accumulation for SSI eligibility, entitlement and future 3-year appointment eligibility in a department.
  • Current part time lecturers with YRO state-supported summer appointments will accrue sick leave on a pro-rata basis (up to 8 hours/month).
  • Current faculty with YRO state-supported summer appointments for additional pay may use accrued sick leave to cover appropriate absences during summer YRO sessions.
  • These new provisions do not apply to regular CEL faculty appointments.

Acceptance of a state-supported summer appointment and course assignment includes an agreement that the faculty employee meet the class on the first day regardless of enrollment, for classes not cancelled prior to that time. Please note that state-supported summer term classes may be canceled by the President or designee. Such appointments may be cancelled at any time by layoff pursuant to Article 38 or cancelled at any time due to low enrollment or budgetary reasons, in which case, the faculty unit employee shall be paid on a pro-rata basis for each class taught prior to cancellation (Articles 21.8; 21.10)
Please make the attached pay schedule available to faculty who teach Summer Semester. Faculty in R1 and R3 session s are paid approximately 3 days after the end of the session; faculty appointed in the R2 8-week session (6/25/2007 – 8/17/2007) will receive ½ of their pay on July 25, 2007, and the balance on August 22, 2007, distributed with the R3 session warrants.

SUMMER 2007 FACULTY PAY

The pay rate for summer state-supported "YRO" faculty reflects a per-unit rate of 1/30th of the academic-year full time annual salary base for faculty who worked on campus either fall 2006 or spring 2007. For summer 2007 faculty appointments, this rate will include the retroactive 7/1/2006 3.00% GSI; and, if applicable, SSI effective fall 2006 or spring 2007. PeopleSoft/E-TRAC base-salary data will not be completely updated in time for summer 2007 faculty appointment processing. Accordingly, do not use salary base data in PeopleSoft to appoint summer faculty. Each College office received a salary report that listed tenured, probationary and temporary faculty who worked during the 2006/2007 academic year. PLEASE USE THE UPDATED BASE SALARY listed in these reports for state-supported summer faculty appointments.

SUPERVISION ASSIGNMENTS

Human Resources-Academic Personnel will provide Instructions for supervision-only assignments in June, 2007

DOCUMENTATION FOR LECTURERS WHO TEACH SUMMER/YRO

If a lecturer taught either fall 2006 or spring 2007, no additional paper work is needed if appointed in the same department for summer 2007. If a lecturer’s last active appointment was summer 2006 or before, the Application for Subsequent Temporary Faculty Appointment (FAO 113) is required. New faculty appointments will require the entire hiring packet, as usual.

SUMMER VOLUNTEER ASSIGNMENTS

Process summer volunteer assignments (job code 0051) through E-TRAC in the same manner as in regular fall or spring semesters, including Volunteer Appointment forms, but use the appropriate appointment begin and end dates that reflect the summer session calendar.
