SFSU Business Intelligence > Functional OverviewBusiness Intelligence Functional OverviewSF State has embarked on a strategic initiative to develop a Business Intelligence (BI) solution to help business decision makers get the information they need in ways that are unavailable today. A primary part of the solution will be an industry leading BI Tool from a third party vendor. SF State is currently evaluating tools from Oracle and IBM. The involvement of constituents all over campus with this project is imperative. The primary objective of this initiative is to provide a fast, intuitive, and powerful way of analyzing data across campus divisions to support short and long term strategic decision-making. This project will be broken down into small phases to ensure its success. For the first phase of the project, DoIT (Department of IT) is working together with ORSP (Office of Research and Special Projects) and Finance on defining and implementing enhanced financial reports for ORSP and Principal Investigators. It is expected that many of these reports will be of use for other users on campus as well. For future phases of the project, SF State is planning to implement a campus-wide data warehouse in collaboration with the Chancellors office and the other CSU campuses. The same BI tool will then be used to access and analyze data from the campus data warehouse. |
