CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY FACULTY


Full Time Faculty
Bunge, Sacha, Ph.D. - Dr. Bunge has been a member of the Clinical/School Psychology faculty since 1990. She received her B.A. (1975) and her M.A. (1978) in Developmental Psychology at San Francisco State University, and her M.A. (1986) and Ph.D. (1989) in Clinical Psychology from the University of California at Berkeley. Dr. Bunge regularly teaches the developmental seminars (Psy 753 and 754). She is also a member of the graduate faculty in Developmental Psychology and has served to coordinate the activities of the 2 programs. Her recent research interests have focused on the ability of children to cope with emotional trauma and on developing an intervention/research project to prevent child abuse in families at risk.

Dr. Bunge is licensed to practice as a Psychologist in California.

Goldman, Ruth K., Ph.D. - Dr. Goldman joined the Clinical/School faculty in 1968. Dr. Goldman received her B.A. (1955) in Psychology at Queens College, City University of New York and her Ph.D. (1964) in Clinical Psychology from the University of California at Berkeley. She has served as Director of the Psychology Clinic and as coordinator of the overall Clinical/School Training Program. Her teaching assignments within the program have included the second-year Clinial Methods (Psy 821 and 822) and integrative seminars (Psy 828), and the supervision/coordination of first-year "teams". She has been a leader in the integration of the training of Clinical and School Psychology students within the program. Dr. Goldman has worked and has been published extensively in the area of the cooperation between Schools and Community Mental Health services in the education of children. Within the training program, Dr. Goldman developed the Developmental Screening Service for local San Francisco elementary schools that is provided by the Psychology Clinic. Dr. Goldman has been extensively involved with the Schools Partnershhip Program (with the San Francisco Schools).

Dr. Goldman is licensed to practice as a psychologist in California, and holds a life California Designated Health Services Crediential as a Clinical Psychologist.

Harris, Diane J., Ph.D. - Dr. Harris joined the Clinical/School Program in 1990 and now serves as Coordinator of the School Psychology Program of the Clinical/School Program . Dr. Harris received her B.A. (1974) from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and her M.A. (1976), Ed.S. (1978), and Ph.D. (1980) from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. In additon to her role as coordinator, Dr. Harris has taught the first-year Clinical Methods seminars (PSY 721 and 722) and the second-year Advanced Psychopathology and Family Theory/Therapy courses (Psy 821 and 822). Dr. Harris has been supervisor/coordinator for a first-year "team", and has served as liaison between the University and the School districts where the advanced fieldwork placements are located. In one of her research projects, she explores the impact of cultural diversity on the assessment and treatment of eating disorders.

Dr. Harris is licensed to practice as a Psychologist in California and Massachusetts, and holds School Psychologist Credentials in both states.

Lewis, Julia M., Ph.D. - Dr. Lewis has been a member of the Clinical/School faculty since 1984, and is currently Coordiantor of the Clinical/School Training Program. Dr. Lewis obtained her B.A. (1973) in Psychology from the University of Minnesota, and her M.A. (1974) and her Ph.D. (1979) in Clinical Psychology from the University of California at Los Angeles. Dr. Lewis is Director of the of the Psychology Clinic and has taught the second-year Clinical Methods seminars (Psy 821 and 822) and serves as supervisor/coordinator for the first-year "team". Dr. Lewis's primary teaching and research interests concern children who are at risk for the development of psychopathology, and the development of early intervention and prevention programs. Dr. Lewis's current research focuses on the impact of divorce on the functioning and adjustment of children and adult perceptions of being in day care as children.

Dr. Lewis is licensed to practice as a Psychologist in California.

Miller, Ken, Ph.D. - Assistant Professor of Psychology. Dr. Miller is the most recent addition to the clinical program, joining in the Fall of 1999. He earned his BA (1985) from Cornell University, and his MA (1991) and Ph.D. (1994) from the University of Michigan. He completed 2 years of post-doctoral prevention research. He has been the clinical administrator of the Bosnian Mental Health Program in Chicago, adjunct professor of psychology at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and program evaluation consultant with community-based organizations doing health promotion and HIV prevention activities. Classes taught include Introduction to Clinical Psychology, Psychological Interventions, Community Psychology, Community Research Methods, and Primary Prevention. Dr. Miller's primary research interests are in both clinical and community psychology, focused on the understanding and treatment of psychological distress among political refugees.

Dr. Miller is licensed as a Psychologist in California and Illinois.

Terrell, Dawn M., Ph.D. - Dr. Terrell joined the faculty of the Clinical/School Training Program in 1990. Dr. Terrell received her B.A. (1980) in Psychology from the University of California at Berkeley, and her M.S. (1982), and Ph.D. from Yale University. Dr. Terrell is currently Chair of the Academic Senate at San Francisco State University. Dr. Terrell is a supervisor/coordinator for one of the first-year "teams", and teaches the first year integrative seminar (Psy 728). Dr. Terrell's teaching and research interests concern the adjustment of children and adults of color. Dr. Terrell has a consultative relationship with a number of community agencies concerning these issues.

Part Time Faculty

Velasco, Manuel, M.S., LMFT - Mr. Velasco has ten years of experience as an Administrator, Organizational Consultant, and facilitator in the implementation of program development, managerial development, cultural diversity strategies, human resources development, conflict resolution programs, stress management programs, and critical incident stress debriefing. He is adjunct faculty of the Clinical Psychology Program at San Francisco State University; the Business & Management School at Rutgers University; and the Diversity Strategies Program at San Francisco State University, College of Extended Learning. Currently he is program director for Adult Services, Berkeley Mental Health, and maintains a private practice of psychotherapy and organizational consultation in Oakland, CA.
