2017 Chinese Bridge Tour for
American Educators from Northern California to Visit China

Confucius Institute at San Francisco State University is proud to announce the 2017 Chinese Bridge Tour for American Educators from Northern California: a 10-day-long program in China for educators to start and strengthen their institution's Chinese programs and partnerships. School and district leaders are invited to apply for this unique, educational trip to China as guests of Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban). The activities and itinerary of this program are tailored especially to the needs of schools and districts that are planning to start new Chinese programs and/or expanding existing Chinese language and culture programs. The focus of this trip will be on better understanding culture, society and education system of China and partnership-building activities, school visits and educational workshops. Participants will learn how to start, strengthen and expand their programs, make connections with other educators, and gather valuable resources. This exciting tour provides an opportunity to: (Our co-host Beijing Normal University will make an itinerary for the group to visit China.)
• Visit schools and meet with Chinese educators and students
• Participate in partnership-building workshops and networking sessions
• Learn from presentations about successful models and available resources
• Share experiences between U.S. and Chinese educators
• Visit cultural sites in Beijing and other cities
• Learn firsthand about a country that is rapidly changing and rising on the global stage
When:
May 31, 2017-June 10, 2017 (Leaving SF on May 31; arriving in Beijing on June 1; returning to
SF on June 10)
Where:
Beijing and Shanghai
Who are eligible?
• School district leaders, principals, and other decision-makers with oversight of World
Language learning.
• District and school leaders from institutions committed to establishing and/ or
expanding new Chinese language and culture programs in their schools/districts.
• Educators from institutions planning to expand their existing Chinese programs by
building ties with Chinese schools are encouraged to apply (though selection priority
will be given to applicants from institutions without existing programs).
• Representatives from Graduate College of Education planning to strengthen
Chinese teaching credential programs in their institution.
All applications are subject to individual review and approval and in compliance with
applicable laws.
Deadline for Application: March 24, 2017
What is included?
The following costs are completely covered by Confucius Institute Headquarters:
1. Pick-up and see off at the airport in China;
2. In-China airfare;
3. In-China hotel accommodations;
4. In-China Receptions, meals;
5. Visits to schools and universities;
6. In-China tour fee, tour guides and admission tickets to places of interests;
7. Local and inter-city transportation costs in China.
Cost to delegates
Delegates are responsible for their individual round-trip international airfare from U.S. to
China, international travel insurance as well as their Chinese visa fee. Please check the
following list:
1. Round trip international airfare from U.S. to China (CI at SF State will block group tickets
for delegates to pay fees to the travel agent directly.)
2. Chinese visa fee for a single entry ($140) (To be paid to: Consulate General of the P.R.
China)
3. International travel insurance (To be purchased through SF State $60 per traveler, paid
to: CI at SF State)
Passport:
Delegates are required to have a valid passport with at least six (6) months validity from the
date of departure. Proof of a valid passport will be required to confirm participation of
selected applicants.
