Confucius Institute Offers Chinese Language and Culture Classes
for SFSU Faculty and Staff

The Confucius Institute (CI) began to offer 10-week (Sept. 12-Nov. 18) non-credit Chinese Language and Culture Classes for faculty and staff and the public on September 12 with the presentation on traditional Chinese Mid-autumn Festival, free for all SF State faculty and staff members.

CI at SF State added a new Chinese Culture Class to its curriculum this semester. The presentations in class will help those teachers and administrators better understand China through experiencing Chinese culture with CI instructors from China.

In the first Chinese Culture class meeting, participants enjoyed a lot in lectures and interaction with instructors, sharing their knowledge about traditional Chinese festivals and their impressions on Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong, the three most vibrant places in China.

Three Chinese Language Classes (beginning, intermediate, and upper-intermediate levels) also gained great popularity among learners of different language levels. Learners in Basic Chinese class had strong interests in learning Chinese by various class activities, feeling excited in learning a different language with Ms. Pei Lijuan, instructor from Beijing Normal University and communicating with speakers of Chinese after two class meetings.

BasicChineseClass

Those in Intermediate Chinese class were happy to continue their Chinese language learning journey this semester with Professor Gao Sijia from Sichuan University. She used the OPI(Oral Proficiency Interview)method to get all learners from different language backgrounds engaged in learning process.

IntermediateChineseClass

Students of Upper Intermediate Chinese Class had relatively solid foundation, so they quite enjoyed the extended topics and discussions, expressing and sharing their own experience and ideas in the target language with Ms. Chen Min, instructor from Beijing Normal University.

UpperIntermediateChineseClass

All faculty and staff have options to sign up for any free classes this semester: three Chinese language and one Chinese culture. Registration is open from week one through week ten. For more information, please contact us at 415-338-7631 or by email cisfsu@sfsu.edu.
