2015 Summer Camp for American High School Students



Chinese Bridge Summer Camp for American Students is an annual Chinese language and culture experiencing activity sponsored by Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters with the cooperation of the Confucius Institutes at San Francisco State University (CISFSU).

The Summer Camp in 2015 is scheduled from July 16th to 30th (Beijing Time) with 30 positions in total allocated to CISFSU. The Summer Camp will provide American Students with Chinese language, culture classes, rich and varied activities and cultural experiencing activities. The program aims at enhancing Sino-US youth exchanges, deepening students’ understanding of China and personal experience with Chinese language and culture, and stimulating their passion for learning Chinese.

Camp Schedules:
High School Students Summer Camp: July 15th-31st (PST 14 days in China)

Application Requirements:
Student applicants must meet the following criteria:
(1) American citizen with valid passport;
(2) Current High School Students
(3) Possesses a basic level of Chinese (Certificate of HSK/HSKK/YCT/BC);
(4) Interested in Chinese language and culture;
(5) Healthy, able to travel internationally;
(6) No long-term experience in China (No more than 1 year);
(7) Take HSK test: For students without a HSK certificate, could registered for the latest test first (April 18th, 2015) and obtain the certificate later. About the test details, please visit www.sfsu.edu/~ci;


Teachers/ Chaperons
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
(1) Respect and understand Chinese culture;
(2) Approachable and have a sense of responsibility, cooperative and assisting in the management of and communication with the campers;
(3) Rich experience in supervising students;
(4) In a healthy condition, able to travel internationally;
(5) Preferably under 50;


Responsibilities of the Teachers/ Chaperons:
(1) Student Orientation before the travel with CISFSU;
(2) Travel together with the team, participate in all the summer camp events and obey the rules;
(3) Responsible in supervising students and keep students safe;
(4) Help students adjust to the new environments and give instructions;
(5) Escort students in emergency and keep good contact;
(6) Gather feedbacks after the summer camp;

Application and Selection
Applicants should submit the personal application form with the personal application letter, school or teacher recommendation letter, resume and other relevant documents to the Confucius Institute at San Francisco State University. Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters will review and approve the final name list by early May 2015 and send out invitation letters.

Fees:
Students and Teachers/Chaperons should pay for:
1. 200-dollar application fee; (Check-only, payable to S F State, non-refundable after the approval from Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters)
2. International airfare; (to travel agency)
3. 140-dollar Visa application fee; (money order, cashier’s check-payable to “Chinese Consulate General”, Master Card or Visa Card)
4. 60-dollar International travel insurance. (Check-only, payable to S F State, non-refundable)

In-China costs:
Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters is responsible for covering the in-China costs of students and accompanying teachers including food and lodging, transportation, and group activities while in China.

    2015美国高中生夏令营

            孔子学院总部拟于7月16日至30日(北京时间)在中国举办2015“美国高中生夏令营”。旧金山州大孔子学院将组织30名学生参加。
            夏令营活动期间,孔子学院总部将组织营员进行中文学习和中国文化体验。营员在华期间的食宿、交通、集体活动等费用,由孔子学院总部负责;夏令营师生自行负担往返国际旅费、签证费及国际旅行保险等费用。

    1、夏令营及日程:
    7月15日-7月30日

    2、申请学生条件:
    1) 持美国护照;
    2) 美国高中学生;
    3) 具备一定中文基础,持有HSK/HSKK/YCT/BC成绩证书;
    4) 对中国语言和文化感兴趣;
    5) 身体健康,适合国际旅行;
    6)无在中国长期生活的经历/连续在华居住时间不超过1年。
    7)需参加HSK考试,并获得成绩证书。(尚未持有HSK/HSKK/YCT/BC成绩证书的同学,可以先行报名,经旧金山州大孔子学院证明,其HSK成绩证书可以后补。最近一次的汉语水平考试(HSK),安排在4月18日。考试相关信息请浏览旧金山州大孔子学院网站:www.sfsu.edu/~ci)

    3、申请带队教师条件:
    1) 尊重和了解中国文化;
    2) 有亲和力、责任心,沟通能力强;
    3) 具有丰富的学生管理经验;
    4) 身体健康,适合国际旅行;
    5) 年龄不超过50岁。

    在夏令营活动中,带队老师须履行以下职责:
    1) 协助孔子学院对学生进行行前培训;
    2) 与营员同去同回,在华期间随团参加夏令营一切活动,遵守活动规定;
    3) 承担对营员的管理职责,负责学生夏令营活动期间的安全;
    4) 帮助学生适应环境,并对学生行为进行指导;
    5) 在紧急情况下陪护学生,并承担联络工作;
    6) 夏令营活动结束后,收集营员对夏令营整体活动的反馈意见并于活动结束两周内向孔子学院提交总结报告。

    4、费用:
    1)申请人自理费用:

    (1)申请费 $200 (支票抬头为: CI at SF State。汉办批准后,申请费不予退回)

    (2)汉办批准后,缴交下列费用: A. 往返国际机票(直接交给旅行社) B. 国际旅行保险费预计 $60 (支票抬头为: CI at SF State。不予退回)

    (3)申请赴中国签证费 $140 (Money Order, Cashier's Check - Payable to “Chinese Consulate General”, Master Card or Visa Card)

    2)汉办资助:
    孔子学院总部负责夏令营期间食宿、交通、集体活动等费用
