To promote Chinese culture, stimulate world college students’ enthusiasm and interest in learning Chinese, and develop friendship, the Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban) has been hosting the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students every year since 2001. The 11th Chinese Bridge - Chinese Proficiency Competition for World College Students will be held in July 2012 in China.
“Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for World College Students. The specific arrangements are as follows:

  1. Host:  Confucius Institute at SF State
  2. Sponsors: Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters ,Education Office of the Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco
  1. Time: Saturday ,April 7th 2012, 1:00pm-5:00pm
  2. Place: Auditorium 133, Humanities Building of San Francisco State University
  3. Contents:

a)

Chinese language proficiency: Participants should select one topic from the organizer selected topics which have been posted on our website www.sfsu.edu/~ci and deliver a speech within 3 minutes;

b)

Knowledge of China: Participants can refer to the related questions released on www.sfsu.edu/~ci. and answer judges’ questions;

c)

Chinese cultural skills: Chinese songs, dance, folk arts, acrobatics, musical instruments, calligraphy, Chinese paintings, Chinese paper-cutting, Chinese martial arts etc.

Applicants may skip part b, part c or both. However, only those who perform in all three parts are eligible for the top three prize winners.

  1. Participants: American college students or postgraduates under 30 years of age with a foreign nationality, born and raised abroad, non-native speakers of Chinese.
  2. Evaluation and awarding methods:

a)

The host will invite Chinese educational experts as judges to select out first,second and third place winners and several honorable mentions on the competition site;

b)

The host will recommend the first place winner to Hanban to compete in the semi-final and final competition in China in July 2012. Hanban will cover his/her round-trip international airfare, accommodations and transportation expenses in China for the competition;

c)

All participants of the preliminary competition will be awarded a certificate and prizes..
