PROGRAM:

The object-oriented program is designed for K-12 Chinese language teachers in Northern California.

• To train sufficient qualified teachers to meet the burgeoning demand for Chinese language and culture education in Northern California
• To help trainees remain informed about the latest development in methods and teaching strategies
• To expand trainees knowledge and abilities to ensure excellence in teaching
• To prepare K-12 Chinese language teachers in promoting student learning at all level of education

CURRICULUM:

Three-week training class with 14 topics from June 21 through July 9 at SFSU will focus on:

• Theory and practice of teaching Chinese as a second/foreign language in the U.S.
• Content knowledge of Chinese language, including Chinese phonology, lexicology, characters, and grammar
• Teaching techniques and skills, classroom management, course design and curriculum development
• Modern technologies in teaching Chinese
• Teaching culture in Chinese language classroom
• Instructional materials development, analysis, and adoption
• Chinese lesson demonstration and evaluation

• Non-native speakers of Chinese with high proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing
