Fall 2012 Chinese Language & Culture Classes

Sept. 4th, 2012 – Dec. 7th, 2012

CI 1001 - Basic Chinese I

Basic Chinese I is designed for students without previous Chinese training or with no more than one-semester learning experience. The class will cover basic pronunciation, sentence patterns, reading, writing, conversation and grammar. Students will learn to communicate with native speakers and lay a solid foundation for further studies, as well as obtaining crucial skills for business communication.
Time: Tuesdays 18:30-20:30

CI 1002 - Basic Chinese II

Basic Chinese II is designed for students who have completed the Basic Chinese I or with two-semester Chinese learning experience. The class will help improve their basic communicative skills toward intermediate level studies in pronunciation, sentences patterns, reading, writing, conversation and grammar. Students will gain more skills in daily communication with native speakers, as well as obtaining crucial skills for business communication.
Time: Wednesdays 18:30-20:30

CI 2001 - Intermediate Chinese I

Intermediate Chinese I is designed for students who have completed the Basic Chinese II or with three-semester learning experience. The class will further improve their Chinese language proficiency in communicating with native speakers. Students will feel more comfortable in listening, speaking, reading and writing, as well as obtaining crucial skills for business communication.
Time: Thursdays 18:30-20:30

CI SHF - Chinese Calligraphy

This course is designed to teach Chinese brush calligraphy skills and practice, starting from learning how to hold the Chinese brush and how to write basic stokes, and the instructor will show you how to write Chinese characters. You will follow instructions to learn calligraphy and present your achievement at the end of the class. The instructor will also make a brief introduction to Chinese calligraphy history, and demo different Chinese fonts, calligraphy styles for students to appreciate and practice.

CI KY - Chinese Conversation I(for Group)

Chinese Conversation is designed for group students without previous Chinese learning experience, who plan to participate in study abroad program or do business in China. The class will cover basic pronunciation, daily sentence patterns, and communicative skills. Students will learn how to conduct conversation with native speakers.
Time: Wednesdays 18:30-20:30

CI PTH- Mandarin Training for Cantonese Speakers

This class is specifically designed for Cantonese speakers who are interested in speaking Mandarin (Putonghua). Instructor will help learners identify different sounds between Mandarin and Cantonese through practice of phonetic drills and learning activities. The focus is on skill development in speaking Mandarin.
Time: Thursdays 18:30-20:30

(2) Students must cancel registration prior to the first day of class in order to get a full refund; no refund after the first day of class.
