What is Alcohol Edu?
San Francisco State University wants to ensure you have a successful academic career and meet all your goals. We are excited to offer you AlcoholEdu for College – a science-based tutorial taken by hundreds of thousands of students each year. This FREE tutorial aims not to preach but rather to educate students about alcohol and its effects on the mind and body. Whether or not you drink, AlcoholEdu for College empowers students to make well-informed decisions and better cope with the drinking behavior of peers.
Why is Alcohol Education Important?
The college years will be some of the most exciting, challenging, and inspiring years of your life. Exciting with new people and ideas, challenging you to discover more about yourself and the world you live in, and inspiring you to reach new heights. We also know the first six weeks may be wrought with challenges for some especially when alcohol is involved.
First Six Weeks of Success
In the first six weeks, research shows an increased likelihood of
- Homesickness leading to early dropout
- Alcohol poisoning leading to costly hospitalization or death
- Rape, especially by someone who is an acquaintance, especially if one or both people have been drinking.
Through the Core Survey administered in the Spring of 2008 we know that the majority (72%) of SF State students who choose to drink do not drink to get drunk. An independent study of AlcoholEdu for College showed that students who took the course had 50% fewer negative personal, health, and academic consequences than those who did not take it. We want you to be healthy and successful throughout your time here and make the first six weeks the beginning of a successful time at SF State.

Q: How do I log in to Alcohol Edu?
1. Go to: http://college.alcoholedu.com

Q: How long does it take?
The course can take you up to 3.5 hours but you can log out and return when you have more time to complete the course.
Q: Do all students need to take Alcohol Edu?
All incoming first time students to SF State are required to complete Alcohol Edu.
Q: When is the deadline?
All incoming students are required to complete the first part of the course by August 21st.
Q: My computer is having problems running the program.
For all technical support, go to the Alcohol Edu log in page and you'll find Technical Help
on the top right hand corner of the page.
You may also use computers at the SF State library if your computer has problems running on high speed internet (may be helpful to bring in your own headset).
Q: What if i miss the deadline?
If you miss the August 21st deadline, you may have until August 28th to complete the course to keep your good standing with the University.
