Alameda County Medical Center ‑ Highland Campus (Oakland) is a 330-bed acute care facility and trauma center operated by the County of Alameda. Stipend is $18,000 for 40 weeks.

 

Alta Bates Medical Center (Berkeley) is a 533-bed acute care community hospital. Areas of excellence include Emergency & Chest Pain Center, Women & Infants Services, Heart & Vascular Centers, Comprehensive Cancer Center, Burn Center, Prenatal Center, and Bone Marrow & Kidney Transplants. Stipend is $9000 for 40 weeks.

 

El Camino Hospital (Mt. View) is a 468-bed hospital that provides a full range of acute care and outpatient services. A GPA of 3.0 or better is required. Stipend is $9000 for 40 weeks.

 

John Muir Medical Center (Walnut Creek) is a 321-bed acute care facility that is designated as the only truama center in Contra Costa County and parts of Solano County. Recognized as one of the region’s premier health care providers specializing in high risk obstetrics, neurosciences, cardiac care and cancer care.  Stipends are $1500/month for 9 months.

 

Kaiser Permanente Hospital (San Francisco) provides full services for over 1000 outpatients per day, and an inpatient population of 300+ beds.  This facility has achieved among the highest heart attack survival rates in the state as the center of Kaiser’s Cardiac Care.  Stipends are $1000/month for 9 months.

 

Kaiser Regional Laboratory (Berkeley) is a large laboratory serving all of the Northern California Kaiser Hospitals. Part of the training is in one of Kaiser's Hospitals. Stipends are $ 1000/month for 9 months.

 

Kaweah Delta District Hospital (Visalia) is a 300-bed acute care hospital located 4 hours from San Francisco in the San Joaquin Valley. Stipend is $1200/month for 9 months.

 

Kern Medical Center (Bakersfield) is a 180-bed acute care hospital with several specialty clinics and an active ER. It is operated by the County of Kern and is located 4.5 hours from SF in the lower San Joaquin Valley. A GPA of  3.0 or better is required.  Stipends are $ 2000/month for 40 weeks.

 

Petaluma Valley Hospital (Petaluma) is a 85-bed community hospital that is part of the St. Joseph Health System of Sonoma County.  The hospital laboratory serves a large outpatient population.  A portion of the training wil be at Santa Rosa memorial Hospital, a 300-bed “sister facility” located 17 miles north of Petaluma.  Preference is given to applicants who live in Sonoma and Marin County.  Stipend is $1000/month for 9 months.

 

Queen of the Valley Hospital (Napa) is a 166-bed community hospital with a large outreach program that serves the Napa Valley. Preference is given to applicants living in Napa, Sonoma or Solano counties. Stipend is $2000/month.

 

Quest Diagnostics Clinical Laboratories (Dublin) is the Northern California reference laboratory for the largest corporate lab system in the nation. Stipend is $9000 for 40 weeks.

 

St. Luke’s Hospital (San Francisco) is a 260-bed hospital with a state-of-the-art Outpatient Surgery Center and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to serve a multi-ethnic community in San Francisco. The emergency room and trauma center is the second busiest in San Francisco.  Stipend is $1000/month for 40 weeks.

 

San Francisco General Hospital (San Francisco) is a teaching facility for the University of California, San Francisco, and provides inpatient, outpatient and emergency services for the residents of San Francisco.  Licensed for 550 beds, SF General Hospital offers acute inpatient care in the areas of general medicine, AIDS care, surgery, critical care, women and children’s services, and serves as a designated trauma center for the West Bay counties.. 

 

Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (San Jose) is a 498-bed acute care facility and trauma center operated by the   County of Santa Clara. The Medical Center includes 10 clinics, a Burn Center, tertiary neonatal ICU, and more. The full-service laboratory includes specialties in virology, TB, mycology, toxicology, and special chemistry.  A GPA of 3.0 or better is required. Stipend is $9000 for 40 weeks.

 

Stanford Clinical Laboratories (Palo Alto) is associated with the oldest medical school in the western U.S.  The hospital is 663 beds and employs a lab staff of 250 people.  Stipend is $9000 for 40 weeks.

 

Tulare District Hospital (Tulare) is a 112-bed acute care hospital located 4 hours from San Francisco in the San Joaquin Valley.  Stipend is $1500/month for 40 weeks.

 

VA Palo Alto Health Care System (Palo Alto) is a 1000 bed hospital operated by the U.S. Government. No stipend is currently available. Part‑time employment is possible. U.S. Citizenship is required.

 

UCSF Medical Center (San Francisco) includes a tertiary care hospital of 550 beds, a medical school and a dental school.  It is one of the largest research centers in California.  Stipend is $2022/month for 40 weeks.

 

Washington Hospital (Fremont) is a 306-bed community hospital serving southern Alameda County.  Preference is given to applicants who live in Alameda County.  Stipend is $1000/month for 40 weeks.

Applications: Students apply to CBLS/SFSU.  Students are invited to the interview day at CBLS/SFSU.    Since each applicant must list their affiliate clinical site preferences at the time of the interview, it is recommended that applicants research and visit the affiliated laboratories prior to the interview day.  Dates for scheduled visits will be sent to students with the interview day invitation.
