HOUSING AND FOOD SERVICES
San Francisco State University is proud to offer an exceptional on-campus living community. The students and priorities of the residence community reflect the diversity of the overall university population and experience, creating a true living-learning environment within the residence halls and campus apartments. Nationwide studies have found that resident students, as opposed to commuters, tend to have higher grade point averages, higher retention and graduation rates, and stronger, more meaningful interactions with faculty and other members of the university community.
The Residential Advantage
The student will want to consider living on campus at SFSU if s/he would like to add these highlights to the university experience:
Life in the residence community offers a variety of excellent programs and facilities that include:
Mary Park Hall and Mary Ward Hall offer both co-ed and all women's floor assignments in an active community setting. Strongly recommended for undergraduates and lower division students, life in the traditional halls provides an excellent orientation to the university experience. Residents are encouraged to run for floor representative positions and to join hall government organizations such as the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) and Rainbow Resident Coalition. Student leadership opportunities are abundant through both paid student staff and volunteer positions.
Located on a hillside of the campus, the Residence Apartments offer year-round housing for almost 600 students. Eligible students must be single and have reached junior, senior, or graduate status or be 20 years or older. The Residence Apartments offer many of the same community involvement opportunities as the traditional halls, but with an emphasis on independent, apartment-style living. Double occupancy two-bedroom apartments are available. A limited number of double occupancy one-bedroom apartments and apartment accommodations for students with disabilities are also available. All apartments have wall-to-wall carpeting, are completely furnished, offer private baths, and provide fully equipped kitchens with microwaves. An optional "Any 5 Plus" meal plan is available to apartment residents.
Residential Dining Services
The SFSU Residential Dining Services Program is one of the best reasons to become a member of the residential community at San Francisco State University. Residential dining facilities include the City Eats Dining Center, Cafe in the Park, and the North Beach Pub. All students living in the Residence Halls contractually choose between "Any 19 Plus," "Any 15 Plus," or "Any 10 Plus" all-you-can-eat meals from the nineteen meals served per week. Each meal plan also includes $100 in flex "Gator Dollars." Residents use a cashless debit card that records their meal plan and Gator Dollars, which use a declining balance system. Gator Dollars may be used instead of cash at any of the residential dining facilities, as well as in the vending machines. Apartment residents and non-resident students may also purchase meal plans and/or Gator Dollars and are welcome to enjoy the cuisine at any of the dining facilities. Students may purchase additional Gator Dollars at any time and purchases made with Gator Dollars are not subject to sales tax. Gator Dollars equal convenience and savings!
