Program

Minor in Ethical Issues in Science and Technology

Program Scope

The Minor in Ethical Issues in Science and Technology is offered jointly by the NEXA Program and the Department of Philosophy. The focus of this minor is on ethical conflicts as they arise in scientific and technological fields and as they influence society and cultures. The minor provides the student with a working knowledge of the major ethical theories, the background necessary to understand some of the most important and persistent ethical problems in science and technology, and the experience of analyzing in detail some of these problems--including the positive and negative aspects of various proposed solutions.

The minor is designed to complement the student's major program, as well as to appeal to students wishing to undertake a portion of their General Education requirement in an organized cycle of course work bearing upon the theme of the ethical, social, and human responsibilities of science and technology. Courses listed all have substantive elements dealing with ethical issues within this context.

Students interested in this minor should contact NEXA, HUM 415, or telephone (415) 338-1302 from 1:00-5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday while classes are in session.
