SFSU Housing and Residential Services offers residential living to 1,500 freshmen and sophomore students under the age of twenty. Located on campus, the following first year and second year living options are the best way to experience the respect for scholarship, human diversity, and cultural richness that makes SFSU one of California's preeminent public, urban universities. Residents are encouraged to join hall government organizations or the Judicial Review Board. Student leadership opportunities are abundant through both paid student staff and volunteer positions.
Mary Ward and Mary Park Halls are an ideal introduction to university life for first-year freshmen students under the age of twenty. All rooms are furnished, double occupancy, with two community bathrooms per floor. Each resident receives free cable TV hookup, telephone with voice mail, and high speed Internet connections. On-site laundry and vending machines are available in both buildings. A choice of 10, 15, or 19 meals a week plan is included in the monthly fees.
The Science and Technology Theme Community (STTC) is open to first-year freshmen students under the age of nineteen. Residents are accommodated in renovated double-occupancy rooms with private bathrooms. The STTC is designed to make the transition to college life easier for 98 SFSU students interested in the science and technology fields; STTC incorporates a "small college experience" approach. Enhanced amenities are available to STTC residents such as Broadband Ethernet connections and intranet network, on-site computer laboratory and classroom space, live-in graduate and resident assistants, and access to science and engineering faculty outside the classroom. Like the residence halls, a choice of 10, 15, or 19 meals a week plan is included in the monthly fees.
First-year Residential Living Programs. A variety of excellent programs are specifically designed for first-year students in the residence halls and the STTC.
The Towers at Centennial Square Apartments were recently renovated to accommodate second-year transfer or sophomore students under the age of twenty. These one- and two-bedroom apartments are shared and offer all the comfort of apartment living. All apartments are furnished and include a kitchenette and bathroom. Each resident receives free cable TV hookup, telephone with voice mail, and high speed Internet connections. On-site laundry and vending machines are available in the building. A convenient 8 meals a week plan is included with the apartment license agreement contract and residents can upgrade to any 10, 15, or 19 meals a week plan at any time.
The SFSU dining program is one of the best reasons to become a member of the on-campus community. The main dining room, City Eats, offers delicious menu selections within the Profiles in Good Taste marketplace. A variety of cook-to-order stations cater to students' taste for fresh and nutritious selections, including grilled entrees at the Fresh Grille, vegetarian dishes at Origins, and delicatessen items at Sandwich Central. The Café in the Park offers à la carte gourmet sandwiches, desserts, ice cream, and specialty coffees.
All freshmen and sophomore students enrolled in an academic program at the university and carrying a minimum of twelve units are eligible to live in the SFSU Housing and Residential Services Residence Community. All upper-division students enrolled in an academic program at the university and carrying a minimum of twelve units are eligible to live in the Towers at Centennial Square.
The housing application process is separate from the university's admission process and applications are accepted on a first-come first-served basis. San Francisco State does not guarantee housing to newly admitted students and does not give preference based on class level.
Due to high demand for housing spaces in San Francisco, the residence community fills quickly. Students are strongly advised to request a housing application before being admitted to the university.
