HIST 644 : Proseminar: Confucius Says -- Or Not

Prerequisites: HIST 300 and ENG 214 or equivalent, or consent of instructor.
Description: Across time and space, Confucius has been regarded either as a wise man or as a babbler, and Confucianism as either an obstacle or propeller of East Asian modernity. Research in primary and secondary sources to get at the historical meanings of Confucianism. (Plus-minus letter grade only.)
