GRE 440 : Greek Epic I

Prerequisites: Reading knowledge of ancient Greek.
Description: Translation and analysis of archaic epic, with a focus on Homer's Iliad and Hesiod's Works and Days. Discussion of formal features, such as meter and dialect, and social and performative context. Paired with GRE 740. Students who complete GRE 440 may not take GRE 740 for credit.
