CINE 441 : Signs of Aliens: Semiotics of Film and Popular Culture

Prerequisites: Upper division standing; completion of 2nd year written composition (ENG 214 or equivalent).
Description: The sign of the alien, an element of popular culture, encompasses troubling ideologies such as xenophobia and racism. Through semiotics and cultural studies, alienation is examined as an aesthetic expression and value system reflected in immigration, race, sexuality, and more.
