Description: Despite the increasingly hostile political climate in Germany, the period from 1920-1950 was particularly fertile for German-Jewish intellectuals, writers, artists. Those studied will include Kafka, Frankfurt School figures (Adorno, Horkheimer), Arendt, Marcuse, Lowith, Benjamin, Hans Jonas, Fromm, Weill. Also offered as GER 611, JS 545, PHIL 420. May not be repeated under alternate prefix.
