Construction Dates

Description

The new Mashouf Performing Arts Center is envisioned as a major new performing arts and broadcast center for the region and home to SF State’s acclaimed programs in theater, music, dance, and broadcast and electronic communications arts. The center will house facilities and offices for the College of Creative Arts, BECA, the School of Music and Dance, and the Department of Theatre Arts, including a 1,200-seat theater/orchestral hall, 450-seat thrust stage, 300-seat music recital hall, television and radio broadcast studios, classrooms, and workshops. The project will be designed and constructed to meet U.S. Green Building Council LEED "Gold" standards.

Scope of work

The Mashouf Performing Arts Center is a landmark project for the University. As the first building designed under the University’s new campus master plan, the Mashouf Performing Arts Center is key to establishing the organizing framework of the campus and will set the bar for responsive and sustainable design. As the western gateway to the campus, the building will serve as an icon for San Francisco State.

The new Mashouf Performing Arts Center is planned for construction in three phases. When complete, the facility will provide a total of 169,505 assignable square feet/240,697 gross square feet and capacity for 1,420 FTE. To assure a successful overall project, the entire project will be designed through the completion of the schematic phase. From the start of the preliminary design phase forward, the focus of the design work will be Phase 1 of the project.

The new complex will include performance venues and rehearsal studios, including a 1,200-seat theater/orchestra hall, 450-seat thrust stage, 300-seat music recital hall, practice rooms, production and postproduction facilities for radio, television, video and other broadcasting, communications, and electronic media programs; an audio recording studio; interactive media laboratories; as well as offices, teaching labs, lecture classrooms, and computer labs.
