Description |
The Recreation Wellness Center is a signification addition to SF State, providing a major new student activity center and revitalizing the northern edge of campus. Located on the former Sutro Library /Lot 25 site on Winston Drive, the 112,270-square-foot facility includes a two-court gym, one-court multi-activity court gym, climbing wall, weight and fitness space, elevated jogging track, indoor pool, and related support space. The project also includes construction of a pedestrian tunnel below Winston Drive to create a safe and accessible connection from the main campus to the Recreation Wellness Center site. The project is funded through a student fee. The Recreation Wellness Center project will be designed and constructed to meet U.S. Green Building Council LEED "Gold" standards. |
Scope of work |
The scope of work for the Recreation and Wellness Center includes demolition of the existing building (previously the Sutro Library) and construction of a combined concrete and steel structure to house the program functions described above. It is envisioned that the building's exterior will consist of glass fiber reinforced precast concrete panels and glass curtain wall systems. The work also involves related site development, including installation of a hammer throw practice area and construction of a pedestrian and utilities tunnel that will cross below Winston Drive providing a safe and accessible walkway between the main campus and the Recreation Wellness Center. Finally, the work includes rough grading of the site for future softball and multi-purpose fields. |
