Amphitheater Waterproofing Rehabilitation – Cesar Chavez Student Center

Construction Dates

Summer 2009

Description

This project will replace the substrate and waterproof the Cesar Chavez Student Center amphitheater (north pyramid), including removal and re-installation of the existing pre-cast concrete seats.

Scope of work

Removal of the existing waterproofing and installation of a liquid hot rubberized asphalt fully reinforced waterproofing system to cover all surfaces below the existing pre-cast concrete seats and repair of deteriorated surfaces.

Progress Report

The amphitheater is closed and unavailable for public use. Construction fencing has been erected on the east side of the Student Center to enclosure the contractor's crane and debris box. A debris shoot has been installed from the Terrace Level deck above the ATM machines to transfer ceiling demolition waste to debris boxes on the ground below. Increased noise levels due to construction activities may be encountered in and around the Student Center.

Expect the following activities to occur during the month of November:

  • Complete exterior waterproofing
  • Conduct water tests
  • Complete construction of parapet walls
  • Begin installation of precast seating units
  • Complete interior fireproofing
  • Begin ceiling installation
