Children’s Campus at SF State

Construction Dates

December 2007 to January 2009 (completed)

Description

This project provides a temporary child development facility for the Marian Wright Edelman Institute in a modular building on the site of the former Lakeview Center building.

Scope of work
  • The Lakeview Center was transferred from the Department of Education to SF State with a backlog of deferred maintenance. Built in 1955, the facility is not in compliance with current building codes or with ADA requirements; there is no elevator access to the second floor. It has significant dry rot and all building systems require major upgrades including the structure itself.
  • The 8,000-gross-square-foot project will provide a new facility to house the following uses:
                  • Child center for infants, toddlers, and pre-schoolers including built-in cabinet storage, sinks, cot storage, adult and child restrooms; large motor room for inclement weather; parent lounge, library, and resource room; health/nurse room; curriculum lab/work room; observation room; testing room/private conference center; administrative offices; and support space.
                  • The factory built, modular construction will use a “Green” building specification to maximize the use of products that have a high recycled or sustainable content and keep energy costs low.
Progress Report

The Children's Campus on North State Drive is under construction. On November 23rd through 25, twenty two factory built building modules will be delivered and installed on the newly completed foundation walls to create a one story facility of approximately 8000 square feet. On the 23rd and 24th there could be some temporary blocking of part of North State Drive while the modles are moved into position to be off loaded by a crane.
