School of Nursing Renovation – Burk Hall

December 2007 to May 15th 2008 (completed)

This interior remodeling project will provide a state-of the-art simulation laboratory for the School of Nursing on the third floor of Burk Hall.

Approximately 3500 square feet in three suites is being renovated to include a simulation center of three simulated hospital patient rooms, two control rooms, a de-briefing conference room and an AV equipment room.

In the Simulation Center students can be placed in scenarios where they are required to respond to patient simulators. The sessions are recorded along with the patient simulators vital signs output for review and evaluation by students and staff.

Using simulators in place of human patients in a simulated hospital setting, students can arrive at their clinical placements with greater background and experience.

The renovated learning spaces outside of the simulation suite provide additional training, skills development opportunities for future nurses.

A new infrastructure for the distribution of electrical power, communications signals and simulated medical gases is part of the projects scope. The control rooms and the AV equipment room will have a separate cooling system. New lighting and finishes are being installed in all three suites.
