Media Acquisitions is available Tuesday-Friday 8a-6p for assistance in locating suitable titles for classroom instruction. Please call or stop by the office.
MEDIA PURCHASE INFORMATION: SFSU faculty can request media purchases by filling out an AV MEDIA PURCHASE RECOMMENDATION.
- PDF Form Version (requires Acrobat Reader) Fill out on your computer, print and send to Brigid.
PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL THIS FORM. It does not save the information you fill out.(If you are requesting a program you saw broadcast, please provide as much information as possible: Station Name, Date of Broadcast, director or producer, if there was an announcement about it being available for purchase.) See links below for help in your search.
Media Purchase Recommendations are checked by our staff and periodically sent to the College Deans for review. Deans then recommend purchases based on their available budget. Purchase orders are then issued to distributors who ship the available media. AT staff process the media as we receive it (review, catalog and number them) and then notify the requesting faculty that it is available for checkout.
The entire acquisitions process, from recommendation to notification, USUALLY takes two semesters. It can take longer if the media is backordered or no longer available.ARCHIVED OR "PULLED" MEDIA: Titles are withdrawn from the AV Collection from time to time (last done in June 1998) for a number of reasons. Sometimes they deteriorate until they are no longer usable. The most frequent reason for pulling a title is our limited shelf space - we simply have to make room for new media by removing older, less used titles. We have a Media Archive of several hundred 16mm prints used in University courses in past years. Unfortunately many of these prints are becoming brittle with age and lack of use. Please contact the Media Acquisitions office (ext. 81493) for more information on archived media - or for recommendations on new titles which can replace withdrawn titles.
