SFSU Closed Captioning Information

The following classrooms have closed caption decoders installed in the console:
BH 225, 236, 252, 256, 408
GYM 113, 114, 115, 116
HSS 135, 213, 246, 248
HUM 111, 121, 126, 127, 207, 277, 301
TH 210, 326, 335, 409
In addition, McKenna Theater and Knuth Hall have decoders installed in their respective consoles.
The captioning is activated with a switch (on or off). Please make sure the captioning is turned OFF after use.

For rooms without closed caption decoders, our closed circuit cable system has specific channels that can decode closed captioning. Any SFSU Classroom with a TV or video projection system can receive these broadcasts.

If a faculty wishes to present closed captioning, they may drop off their media at the Audio-Visual Center and ask that it be cablecast on a channel with a closed caption decoder. We recommend that they test the tape on our system when they drop it off to make sure it has captioning encoded on it and that it plays back properly. Some DVD and laserdiscs may have subtitles instead of closed captioning.

In addition, we have several TV/VCR and multimedia carts that have decoders on them which can be rolled into classrooms.

All AV Media with closed captioning is designated in its annotation listing in the AV Media Catalog. We do not maintain separate listings for closed captioned media.
