The Call of the Jitterbug

Video Cassette - 36 minutes - B&W/Color - 1988

It was called the Jitterbug, the Lindy Hop, the Swing. Count Basie, Benny Goodman and Cab Calloway played the tunes at Harlem’s Savoy Ballroom while young people, black and white, danced the Great Depression away and broke color barriers. This video by Tana Ross, Jesper Sorenson and Vibeke Winding sounds the call of the jitterbug again through vintage footage and poignant interviews with legendary dancers such as Mama Lu Parks, Norma Miller and Frank Manning.
