halving the bones

Video Cassette - 1 hour, 9 minutes - Color - 1995

This spirited visual family album weaves home movies, documentary footage and family stories into a sharply observant tale of a Japanese American filmmaker, living in New York with a tea can of bones in her closet. The remains are those of her dead Japan ese grandmother, which she was to deliver to her estranged mother. Written, produced and directed by Ruth Ozeki Lounsbury.
