Itinerant folk poets and singers, the Bâul of Bengal draw from both Hindu and Islamic traditions for their mystical visions of Indian life. Use of the stringed drum, the anandalahari, and the gopijantra, a single-stringed instrument, is also shown in this video, which focuses on an annual festival honoring the 12th century Sanskrit poet Jayadeva.
