Early Russian Cinema: 4. Provincial Variations

Early Russian Cinema Series

Video Cassette - 55 minutes - B&W - 1991

Although the early Russian cinema industry was based mainly in Moscow, provincial filmmaking contributed some striking novelties. Among these were the " Latvian Wedding Day " (1912, 12 min.), providing an invaluable record of traditional Jewish customs, and the sensational blackmail melodrama " Drama on the Volga: Merchant Bashkirov’s Daughter " (1913, 43 min.).
