This program traces the social role filled for centuries by entertainers who embodied the image of traditional Japanese womanhood - the geisha. The training of two maiko (young women training to be geishas), as well as attitudes of both geishas and their wealthy men clients, are explained. Produced and directed by Joanna Bailey.
