Victor Jessen spent ten years (1944-1954) following the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo around America, filming Leonide Massine s "Gaîté Parisienne," whenever Alexandra Danilova, Frederic Franklin, and Leon Danielian were dancing the principal roles. Jessen shot in 30-second takes from various locations in many different theaters, then edited the footage to complement an audio recording he made of the ballets music at a 1954 performance. This is the result.
