Gaîté Parisienne

Video Cassette - 38 minutes - B&W - 1986

Victor Jessen spent ten years (1944-1954) following the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo around America, filming Leonide Massine ’s "Gaîté Parisienne," whenever Alexandra Danilova, Frederic Franklin, and Leon Danielian were dancing the principal roles. Jessen shot in 30-second takes from various locations in many different theaters, then edited the footage to complement an audio recording he made of the ballet’s music at a 1954 performance. This is the result.
