For the Kawelka highlanders of Papua New Guinea, status in earning by giving rather than receiving; the larger the gift, the greater the giver’s victory over the recipient. This program explores the moka, a giving ceremony, following the efforts of the head man to gather together a gift of monumental proportions to give to a neighboring, and rival, tribal leader.
