Video Cassette - 40 minutes - Color - 1974

Introduces choreometrics, a method of studying the relationship of dance style to social structure, developed by Alan Lomax, Forrestine Paulay and Irmgard Bartenieff. Demonstrates two of the scales by which dance can be measured, and shows their use in c lassification and analysis. Supports Lomax’s contention that the principal symbolic function of the arts is to reinforce patterns of social adaptation.
