Maids and Madams

Video Cassette - 54 minutes - Color - 1985

This production carefully examines the complex relationship between black household maids and their white employers - madams - under apartheid in South Africa. Both white and black people discuss this situation, in which underpaid black women were forced to work long hours and to neglect their own children, to care for their employers’. Filmmaker Mira Hamermesh.
