In 1989 Charlene Teters, a Spokane Indian, graduate student and mother, objected to the presentation of the University of Illinois mascot, Chief Illiniwek. Since then her objection has grown into a national movement. This documentary by Jay Rosenstein lo oks at Teter’s battles with the University of Illinois, questioning whether American Indian mascots in sports are respectful tributes or racist stereotypes.
