A ne’er-do-well kabuki actor returns to the small town where he left his former mistress and their son, but heartbreak results from his current mistress’ jealousy. The characters’ lives are compared to drifting weeds in this study by Yasuj iro Osu. Remade in 1959 as "Floating Weeds" (DVD AT # 69229).
