This film about winning, losing and everything in between follows the 1988 season of the Shiprock Lady Chieftans, a high school women’s basketball team on the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico. Coach Jerry Richardson, a young African American in his first teaching job, finds his intense, confrontational style at odds with the peaceful team members who would rather play than win.
