In February 2004 23 people drown in Morecambe Bay, England, while picking cockles on the tidal flats. All were illegal immigrants from China, inexperienced and unable to understand the warnings English cocklers shouted at them. This video, made for Danis h television by Poul-Erik Heilbuth, surveys the political and economic issues surrounding illegal immigration across Europe where, as in the United States, many undocumented workers labor at poorly paying jobs without social benefits.
