On June 2, 2000, the Yanacocha gold mine in Peru spilled over 300 pounds of mercury across a 25 mile long stretch of highway, contaminating the mountain village of Choropampa. This video looks at the conflict between the company, owned by Peruvian intere sts, the World Bank and a United States mining corporation, which insists the spill was completely cleaned up, and the local people, 900 of whom still suffer from mercury poisoning.
