The Sufi mystics called whirling dervishes in the West are more properly known as the Mevlevi Brotherhood. This program looks at the Mevlevism, part of the Sufi mystic tradition of Islam, through the eyes of 12-year-old Elif, a Turkish girl studying at t he Numan Dede Religious Den. Theological lectures, introductions to the works of Rumi, the 13th century mystical poet who founded the sect, explanations of the colors of the worshipers robes, basics of the Sema prayer and a filming of Elif in the S eb-i Arus ceremony at the Galata Mevlevi Temple are shown.
