This three part production examines the facts behind a common assumption for most of recorded history: that human beings can be divided into racial groups. In "The Difference Between Us" racial characteristics - skin color, disease, evolution and genetics - are considered. African American and Asian American athletes discover, through sequencing their own DNA, they have more in common with other "races" than they thought. "The Story We Tell" reviews the sociological bases for the idea of race, particularly at the European conquest of the Americas. The origins of the concept of white supremacy and how social inequality became "natural" are described. How race was defined in the United States in the 20th century is the foc us of "The House We Live In". Legal decisions, the blending of groups and the inequity suffered by those considered nonwhite - particularly in terms of housing in the suburbs - are featured. Each episode 56 minutes.
