Five kabuki dances featuring Onnagata performer Bando Tamasaburo: Takao (23 min.) uses Ogie-bushi style music to tell a tale of a great courtesan, Orochi (Great Serpent) (24 min.) a recent adaptation of the last act of a puppet play, Yugiri (12 min.) a 19th century version of a story about a high ranking courtesan and Kane ga Misaki (The Bell Promontory) (18 minutes) a tale of a jealous young woman, similar to the Kyoganoko Musume Dojoji dance, and Yokihi (28 minutes) a fusion of kabuki and Peking opera created for Tamasaburo. Letterboxed; DVD includes English commentary by Paul M. Griffith, Japanese commentary by Kentaro Okuda, Japanese subtitles.
