This series charts 50 years in the life of a group of Ju/hoansi ( Bushmen ) in the northern Kalahari Desert, as recorded by John Marshall. "A Far Country" introduces Marshall as he meets Toma Tsamkxao and his hunter-gatherer Ju/hoan band in Nyae Nyae. Marshall and the Tsamkxao clan reuinite in 1978 at Tjumlkui in "End of the Road", as Toma and his family adopt an agrarian - but not easier - lifestyle. In the 1980s local opposition grows when the South African government Dep artment of Nature Conservation tried to put a game reserve in Ju/hoan territory, as shown in "Real Water".
