In 1831 an African American slave named Nat Turner led a brief, violent and unsuccessful rebellion against Virginia white slaveholders. Filmmaker Charles Burnett explores the different images of Turner constructed by historians, artists, novelists and dr amatists over the years through interviews and dramatizations in this program, using a different actor to portray Turner in each version of his life.
