Two programs on this videotape outline the origins of popular twentieth century product designs: first, the stylized map of the London underground subway system, created by electric circuit diagram designer Henry Beck, which has guided people through the Tube since 1933. Director Dieder Baussy-Oulianoff. Next, although Adolf Hitler promoted it as the people’s car, the Volkswagen Beetle, an economical modernist design by Ferdinand Porsche, actually came into its own in the 1950s. Director Reiner E.
