On December 13, 1937, Japanese soldiers occupied the city of Nanking ( Nanjing ), China, beginning a two month reign of terror during which approximately 350,000 soldiers and civilians were killed. German businessman John Rabe was so horrified by what h e saw that he worked with others to save 250,000 people in Nanking. This History Channel production relies on Rabes diaries, along with statements by soldiers, victims and their descendants, to throw light on this dark moment in history.
