| Child and Adolescent Development Program | Housed within the Marian Wright Edelman Institute, the Child and Adolescent Development Program (CAD) is an interdisciplinary, cross-professional undergraduate degree for students interested in studying and working with issues related to children, adolescents, youth and families. It is designed for breadth of knowledge about child and adolescent development and its applications to services for children and families, research and public policy development. | CAD Major BA Completion Program/ Applying to SFSU: | The Child and
Adolescent Development Program began a B.A. degree completion program on the
Cañada College campus in Fall, 2003. The
Spring 2006 admission
Deadline
is August 31, 2005. In order to be considered for Spring 2006 admission, students must : Ø Have completed 60 transferable semester units, of which: Ø 30 units must be general education and include CSU GE areas A1, A2 and A3 and B4. Applications for admission to San Francisco State University are available online at http://www.sfsu.edu/prospect/apply.htm and at the Cañada College Transfer Services, located in Building 5, Room 204 Non-SFSU Students: Non-SFSU students may enroll in a lifetime maximum of two off-campus CAD courses before being admitted to SFSU. CAD at City College of San FranciscoA few selected CAD courses are taught each semester at City College of San Francisco (CCSF) and non-matriculated students are eligible to participate (See General Information section regarding non-SFSU student participation). | Pre-Admission Counseling |
Janet Egiziano, M.A., coordinates the Child and Adolescent Development University Center/Pathways Program. She makes weekly visits to the Cañada College campus to meet individually with prospective students. To make an appointment, call CAD at 415/405-3564 or e-mail: cadp@sfsu.edu. At Cañada College, prospective CAD majors may also contact Ms. Dianne Eyer, Coordinator of the Early Childhood Education Program, at (650) 306-3295. For additional information on the CAD Program, visit the Web at http://cad.sfsu.edu or stop to the CAD office at SFSU, located in SCI 394. Transfer Services, located in the Counseling Center (Building 5, Room 204, 650-306-3372) at Cañada College, can provide information regarding SFSU admission requirements and procedures for the Child and Adolescent Development (CAD) Cañada/SFSU University Center/Pathways programs. A representative from the SFSU Office of Student Outreach Services makes regular visits to Cañada College through Transfer Services. The Transfer Services Calendar lists dates and times of these visits, and Program Coordinator Ms. Dione Carter can schedule appointments for students to meet directly with the SFSU representative. The SFSU Office of Student Outreach Services also has information about the Cañada/SFSU University Center/Pathwaysprograms and can answer questions regarding the SFSU admissions process. | General Education Requirements |
Segment III General Education courses are included within the Child and Adolescent Development core courses and may be double-counted. Segments I and II must be earned through lower division coursework at a community college. Information regarding the Cañada College CSU General Education and the Intersegmental General Education Programs (Segments I and II) is available at the Cañada College Counseling Center, Building 5, Room 204. Beginning in October 2001, information on articulation of Cañada College courses with SFSU course requirements will be available through the ASSIST Website, www.assist.org. Additional information on SFSU’s General Education requirements is available on the Web at http://www.sfsu.edu/~ugs/GE%20Policy.html and at http://www.sfsu.edu/~advising/GE/GEhome.htm. At SFSU, students can get advising about General Education at the Advising Center (ADM 212, 415-338-2101; see http://www.sfsu.edu/~advising/hours.htm for information, Advising Center hours and how to make an appointment.) | Student Advising |
Ms. Janet Egiziano, coordinator for the Child and Adolescent Development University Center/Pathways Program, makes weekly visits to the Cañada College campus (Bldg. 22, room 107) to meet individually with students for advising. Advising is done on a drop-in basis or by appointment. Ms. Egiziano can be reached by e-mail at jmlziano@sfsu.edu, or by telephone at (415) 405-3560 or 415/405-3564. Students may also consult the CAD website http://www.cad.sfsu.edu. Potential and active CAD students may also receive advising and program information via mail and email. For that reason, students are required to have an SFSU email account and are placed on the CAD mailing list. Specific course advising takes place during faculty office hours on the Cañada College Campus in Building 17, Room 112, as the program proceeds, and/or students may go to the CAD office (SCI 394) on the SFSU campus for advising by department faculty.
